68: Col. John Boyd
SV 68
Originally intended for fighter pilots, Boyd´s key concept
(applied in industry) was that of the decision cycle or OODA loop
In 2007, Robert Greene insisted that it was "deeply relevant to any kind of competitive
environment: business, politics, sports, even the struggle of organisms to survive"
O - Observation: the collection of data by means of the senses
O - Orientation: the analysis and synthesis of data to form one´s current mental perspective
D - Decision: the determination of a course of action based on one´s current mental perspective
A - Action: the physical playing-out of decisions
On occasions a planned action may get cancelled in order to satisfy changes.
Being a decision cycle, it is hence known as the OODA loop.
observe - orient - decide - act
Observation and Orientation may be likened to reconnaissance, Decision is the same as "taking a view"
Similar to the Shewart PDCA cycle
