Yellow Hammer - Emberiza citrinella.
Resident, .
Size 16 cm
This is one of the birds to be heard in the Nature Reserve, listen on summers days to its song, which is said to be like 'a little bit of bread and no cheese' Look for the source of the song, it will be sitting on a high branch, and through binoculars you will see a brilliant yellow bird. But it wont let you get too close, before moving to a safe branch .

This is one of the bunting family of birds, and feeds on the ground. In the winter they form flocks with other finches and buntings, but remain in Britain.
