Stewkley Wildlife Reserve
Comma
Comma - Polygonia c-album
Flight time - All Year
Wingspan - 55mm
This is a distinctive member of the Fritillaries family, and it is possible
to see the Comma butterfly at any time of the year when conditions are warm enough.
The jagged edges of the wings and the orange and brown colour make this butterfly
easy to identify.
Eggs are laid on Hop, Nettle or Elm leaves, which the caterpillars feed on.
Seen in the photograph, on one of the hedges of the Reserve.
