This is a pretty butterfly, which has been seen in the Wildlife Reserve, and in gardens in the village.
The eggs are laid on Sheeps Sorrel or Common Sorrel, which is plentiful in the Reserve. There can be up-to 3 broods in a year, the caterpillars that emerge in September then overwinter as caterpillars, becoming chrysalis in March or April, to emerge as the next seasons adults in May
The butterfly in the photograph is shown on a muddy area, where it is probably warming itself in the sunshine.
