Corn Marigild - Compositae Segetum
Time to see - September - October
Height - 20 cm
This lone specimen  appeared in September and was still flowering at the end of October, on a bare patch of earth on the edge of the pond.

Like the Cornflower it really prefers cultivated soil to grow in, so is not going to fare well amongst the dense grasses of the Reserve.

Where it came from is a mystery, it could have been brought by a bird, or sometimes seeds are able to lie dormant in the soil, just waiting for the right conditions to grow, or maybe someone scattered a packet of wild flower seeds around.

Reference books show this plant to have leaves with jagged edges, which this sample does not,  but it fits in  all other reepects.
