Field Woodrush -Luzula campestris.
Time to see - March - June.
Height - 8 - 20cm
It is the earliest grass-like plant to flower in the Spring.

Wood rush (Luzula) leaves are flat or folded and hairy, grass-like and hairy. Each seed pod has three seeds. Ants like the seeds of woodrushes as they contain a rich oil.

Other names for Field Woodrush are Sweep's Brush, Good Friday Grass and Cuckoo grass.

Field wood-rush can be found at the far end of Old Churchfurlong field, best seen early in the year before the grass gets too big.

It can also be found in some lawns, where it is smaller due to being mown.
