Named after Timothy Hanson who introduced it to the United States in the eighteenth century.
The Pratense part of the name means - of the meadows.
An important fodder crop anfdwidely planted, it can be spotted in meadows as it has bluish leaves and grows in loose clumps, the leaves are often slightly twisted.
Also known as Meadow Cat's Tail.
