Stewkley Wildlife Reserve
Black Poplar
Black Poplar - Populus nigra
This large tree near to the pond, is a female Black Poplar, which has green catkins in the spring.
Generally over the country it is not very common, except that quite a few have been identified growing in the Vale of Aylesbury. Recent examination has found that this tree is a clone or cutting from the same stock as most of the trees in the Vale
The view left, shows it in early October 2011, when it has lost most of its leaves.
