There are rose plants in the hedgerow of the Reserve, and after flowering they will go on to produce 'Hips' one of which is show in the photograph below. They ripen to a deep red, like the one show here.



During WW2 rose hips were gathered  and processed into 'Rose Hip Syrup' which made the vitamin C present in the hip available to people.
'Dog' is a prefix added the names of plants centuries ago, that were thought to be of no use.
