Wildlife Reserve Spinney

The far corner of New Churchfurlong field contains a small wood or Spinney, it has not been managed for a good few years, and so is dominated by tall trees which block the light to the ground, which suppress the growth of other than nettles.

It is intended in the future to open up the canopy to allow more light into the ground, and thus promote the growth of a wider variety of plants.

Boxes for birds to nest in have been erected, as well as bat roosting boxes.

The Spinney and nearby pond were fenced off in the autumn of 2009 in order to prevent sheep going there.
